THE BEE HIVE STATE UTAH

SALT LAKE CITY

With all the back to school blitz going on this time of year I remembered the trip we took to Salt Lake City in 1996 for one last summer trip before school started.  The plan was to go swimming in the Great Salt Lake and then visit the capitol.  We had gone swimming in the salt lake when I was a kid and  it was so fun.  You could float forever because the lake is so salty.

I wanted my kids to have the same experience so we went out there.  How things had changed since I was a kid.  No one was at the Saltaire and

nobody was swimming.  There was no one out there.  The water was so disgusting that we didn’t even touch it.  Apparently it was  full of brine shrimp and brine flies.

The trip to the capitol was more successful.  Utah is called the Beehive state because it is the emblem of the state.  The beehive represents industry and the pioneers virtues of thrift and perseverance .

Because Utah is our neighbor state I have had the opportunity to visit the capitol several times. It is one of only two capitols that I have visited with both my siblings and my children. Its hard to believe that on my quest this has happened only twice!
